Spending Money I Don’t Have on Things I Don’t Need.

Can anyone think of a better way to save money you don’t have than to spend it on things you don’t need? That’s the current conundrum going on in my life. Because I really cant go more than 2 weeks without being completely focused on whether or not I should either purchase / make / be obsessed with.. something. Obsessed with something that I really don’t need, but for some reason, uncontrollably want. Like a new house in place I no longer live (don’t ask), or a new car (that I wouldn’t normally drive), or a dog (that I.. well, I think I’d play with a dog, but whatever), or a pair of shoes (not as serious price-wise, but weird considering that shoes are prolly the last thing I need) or a new computer (which is ironic, and youll find out why in a second).

To something that I’ve stewed long hours over for a good… ehh… 2 weeks or so. haha.

I need a tablet. And I have no idea why.

I have no idea why because I have a 4” cell phone, a 13” macbook, and a 27” imac. So where exactly does a 10.1” tablet fit into that? Because really, if I’m on the go, I use my phone. If I’m sitting on the couch, I use my macbook. And if I need the real estate, I use the imac. So really, and I mean really, the only real reason I’m even considering its worth to buy this thing is for one thing. When my ipod is jus too small (oh yea, I have an ipod touch too, which is really used as just an ipod, so really I should get an ipod classic, but that’s a whole different story), my phone is just too weak on battery, my laptop just isn’t nearly portable enough (nor is it a champion on battery life either), and the imac is.. well, its 27 inches, that’s even bigger than the first TV I ever bought. So whats the one thing?

Airplanes. Last year, I spent roughly 80 hours in the air on 7 trips. With waiting-in-the-airport time, that’d prolly round it up to 100 hours. And that includes a very out of the ordinary trip to Fiji. So even if I spent the same amount of time in a plane this year, that equals out to like $4 an hour for this tablet. Id have to use it 300 more hours just to get it down to a comfy level of $1 per hour of use. And if i do that, I’m just taking away from my use of my other gadgets and the money that i dont even want to think of on what i spent on those.

So i dont really need it.

Not to mention that my wife already has an iPad (which rules out buying an iPad). And on previous trips, we got a $5 headphone splitter and watched movies together and that did the job just fine. simple enough. But you know what? its not mine.

Its not really selfishness, its just that, well, i like gadgets. Not only that, i have $160 worth of giftcards from work, so these things would be even cheaper! Who doesnt like a deal?? My first instinct was iPad. Then it was a Kindle. then i realized i dont read books. Or at least the amount of books to warrant buying a kindle. So then, it went to.. the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. with dock. cuz then i can justify using it for school, right? I mean, it DOES have a keyboard. Yeah yeah, I have a laptop. so i dont really the need the keyboard, but i might as well get it, since i dont really need the tablet either. but just look at it!

Asus Eee Pad Transformer

aite. f it. ive spent this entire post trying to justify getting it and convincing myself that i actually do need it. and whats happened is the exact opposite. i really dont need it. i have enough gadgets to warrant not getting it. itll replicate the same features i already have in other things. ugh.

whatever, i’m still buying it.
